The Right Job

What do you need to do?

The right job is one in which the work you do is in line with your career goals. That means if you want to be a veterinarian, you don't accept a job working as a bank teller. Finding a job that matches your long term job goals is not always easy. Being persistent, creative and thorough is often necessary.

Many times, when a job seeker is in the midst of a job hunt, frustration and depression can set in if no job offers are quickly forthcoming. While these feelings are normal and certainly understandable, if they are left unchecked, they can negatively affect future job search efforts.

Finding the right job entails:

  • —Knowing exactly what you want

  • —Searching for that job in the right places

  • —Working at least one part of the job search every day, such as:
    • • Resume
    • • Cover letter
    • • Locating great jobs
    • • Applying for open jobs
    • • Interviewing
    • • Negotiating
  • —Follow-up/follow through

You can't expect your dream job to find you. Although that does happen to some people, it is rare and you certainly can't count on it. Ninety-nine percent of the time, hard work, consistently searching and applying for jobs, and solid interview preparation will help you achieve your dream job.

It is often said that finding a job is a job in itself. This is truer than most people realize or care to admit. What frequently makes the difference between landing a great job or settling for a mediocre job is the amount of time and effort that a person puts into the job search. There is one other thing that makes a difference, too, and that is the length of time a job candidate searches for a job. Rather than take the first job that comes along, sometimes it is good to wait for the right job.

How successful you are not only in finding the right job but in life in general is based upon how much effort you put into doing the things that really matter.
